life: Ngai Hung....

"死ngai hung!!"



i will forever laugh at that memory of my grandmother yelling @ keni's annoying uncle. it was.... the laste of link a couple years ago.... Ngai Hung talked too much (wich we all know) while he was working the wok (he was called in to be a laborer), so my grandma was like, "死Ngai Hung! gong ooaw ge doo! (you talk more then you work)"



it was such an outright insult that it was funny. but it's the truth. he's loud, and he talks too much. when i first met him, i didn't like him. i don't know why i was so prejudiced against him... maybe it was the eyebrows that look like that of a cavemen's or.... his loud personality.



He is now a full-time handyman fixing everything from A/C's to computers to refridgerators. He used to live w/ keni's family (keni's ma was his younger sis), but now he has moved out into a rented apt in chinatown with his parents--they're up in their years, and they (more like his father, keni's grandpa) couldn't stand being in their house any longer.



he has a wife and a child back in china that has recently recieved acceptance as immigrants to the US. they're waiting upon airplane tickets.



PART I: COMING



When he first came, it was... i have no clue. but this conversation took place on the plane back to chic--jim's dad sat with him, the farthest in the back from our family. we took up quite a few seats (14 of us). but once again due to online check in, we were able to get to the airport very fast and board. (though our plane was late a few minutes, we entertained ourselves playing cards)



they were SO FREAKING LOUD!!! i was like, "I feel sorry for your dad, blendi. he needs to sit next to Ngai Hung." the entire time. and they kept at it!!! man, i felt sorry for the entire board of passengers! before i napped they talked, afterwards when i woke up a couple hours later, they were still at it!!! but @ least i was 2 rows in front of them. my da and keni's parents weren't as lucky.



later on, i found out what it was about.



Ngai Hung was talking about how everybody has ruined him.



Back in china, instead of taking up odd jobs, he sat and waited for the immigration letter.



When he got it, his sister (keni's ma) paid for his airfare to america. so he didn't have to work towards his goal of getting the money from hard work.



When he got here, keni's ma gave him a new car that she had just bought a while ago.



and now, he has no aspirations! it's because everyone ruined him. everything came to him so easily!



so jim's dad was like, "Ngai Hung, nee gong yea mo kou gong." (Ngai Hung, you shouldn't talk like that/put it that way!)"



"your sister bought your airfare, gave you a new car, and let you live in her house! When we (jim's dad and my ma) first came here, we had to work for everything! we had to buy our own airfare. we had to take public transportation to work! (at least my ma did) and do you know how many ppl back in Herng Ha (the countrysides of China) would die to be here? in your shoes? gwoi gwoi doo sherng lee mee gwok! nee goo kuoi young yee mo? (Everyone wants to come to america! but is it that easy?)

so. just yesterday, b/c my grandmother had to go to NY, we had to get someone to sub for her.
we chose ngai hung.
and so, when my parents came around at night to pick me up, i was like, "so, how was work today?"

my dad was like, "ngai hung HAS NO END!!! the ENTIRE day, he talked in circles. he was like, 'He could pay me back, but then, i don't want the money. i could just not do his business. it's not like i'll starve w/o him. but then again, it's not that good...' he just kept going in circles! he wants the money, he doesn't. he wants his business, but he won't starve w/o it."

my mom was like, "yeah... he had no end. he kept talking the entire day! that's 10 hours!"

and i was like, "just stop it. man. seriously. it's not like he'll starve! he has dozens of clients every month. get over it!"
